Freaky Accident, Very Freaky Death

This is a freak accident indeed. A similar story about someone stumbling while doing dishes has inspired me to be careful filling the silverware basket in the dishwasher. (sharp things go blade down)

The death of a Myrtle Beach man was officially ruled an accident Tuesday after an autopsy showed he bled to death from being cut on a glass coffee table, officials said.

Randolph Davis Jr.’s girlfriend called police at about 8:30 a.m. Monday to report finding him bloody in their residence at 219 Waccamaw Village Drive in Myrtle Beach.

The emergency dispatch call for Davis was for a gunshot wound.

But, after an examination, officials said it appeared Davis fell into a glass coffee table in his house, puncturing an artery in his arm.

Davis’ official cause of death was listed as massive hemorrhaging due to laceration of an artery, Horry County Deputy Coroner Dan Bellamy said.

Horry County police Sgt. Rick Bonney said investigators determined Davis was injured in the house and no foul play was involved.

“It ended up becoming life-threatening and either he didn’t know it or couldn’t get help,” Bonney said. “No one was home and there wasn’t a phone.”

Davis’ girlfriend, who found him, had returned home after being out of town, Bonney said.
