I love this kid, he and his family have a great attitude about this. They aren’t afraid of the publicity and it’s such a perfectly creepy cool 9 yr old boy thing. He’s a cutie too. Thanks Jesse!

Spiders find home in child’s ear

These guys weren’t exactly Snap, Crackle and Pop.

What began as a faint popping in a 9-year-old boy’s ear, “like Rice Krispies,” said Jesse Courntey, ended up as an earache. When Jesse’s mom took him to the doctor the diagnosis was that a pair of spiders had taken up residence inside his ear.

“They were walking on my eardrums,” Jesse Courtney said.

One of the spiders was still alive after the doctor flushed the fourth-grader’s left ear canal. His mother, Diane Courtney, said her son insisted he kept hearing a faint popping in his ear — “like Rice Krispies.”

Dr. David Irvine said it looked like the boy had something in his ear when he examined him.

When he irrigated the ear, the first spider came out, dead. The other spider took a second dousing before it emerged, still alive. Both were about the size of a pencil eraser.

Jesse was given the spiders – now both dead – as a souvenir. He has taken them to school and his mother has taken them to work.

“It was real interesting, ’cause, two spiders in my ear – what’s next?” Jesse said who admits he would like to be Spiderman Jr.

Miss Mexicos’ Fab Dress

Miss Mexico is really working it, showing off her dress for the Miss Universe Pagaent to be held in Mexico City later this year. And what is she showing off? A dress that not only has the Holy Mother Virgin of Guadalupe over her po-nanny, but pictures of dead people hanging by their necks, people facing firing sqauds and a bullet belt. If John Waters did a version of THE PRODUCERS set in Tabasco this dress is the sort of thing he’d come up with. Oh that we were all so beautiful, dumb and Catholic.

Miss Mexico is redesigning her Miss Universe pageant dress – not because it is too slinky or low-cut, but because it is too violent.
The floor-length dress, belted by bullets and accented by sketches of hangings during Mexico’s Roman Catholic uprising in the 1920s, outraged Mexicans who said it was in poor taste and inappropriate for the world’s most important beauty contest.

Critics said it glorified violence in a country were a battle between rival drug gangs has brought a wave of killings and beheadings.

Designers who helped select the dress from among 30 entries said they had wanted something that represented the nation’s culture and history, especially since Mexico City is hosting the pageant in May…

Cut from a traditional, natural cotton called manta, the dress depicted scenes from the 1926-1929 Cristero war, an uprising by Roman Catholic rebels against Mexico’s secular government, which was imposing fiercely anti-clerical laws. Tens of thousands of people died.

The dress unleashed a storm of criticism. La Jornada carried close-ups of controversial images from the dress, including a man facing a firing squad…

Miss Mexico, Rosa Maria Ojeda, presented the dress March 29, showing off the billowing, hoop skirt adorned with sketches of Roman Catholic rebels hanging from posts. Rosaries and scapularies hung from her bullet-studded, bandolier belt. She completed the outfit with a huge crucifix necklace, a black halter top and a wide-brimmed sombrero…

“It would be like Miss USA wearing a dress showing images of the Ku Klux Klan in the Deep South, with their hoods, their burning crosses and beer cans,” he wrote. “A beauty contest is very far from being the right place to vent political and religious ideologies.”…

Pageant spokeswoman Esther Swan said the new skirt will have ribbons and ruffles – but no images.

As Madonna has proven, crucifixes are HOT.
