Christmas Tree used as Weapon in Domestic Fight

The holidays are stressful times of year. The shortening days, tight economy and expectations are hard on us all. However, most of us refrain from using Christmas Trees as weapons, at least this early in the year.  Dig how this story mentions “Manatee Deputies.” That means Manatee County, not a sea mammal with a gun. Click here for a story about a sweet potato pie used as a weapon, also in Florida.

PARRISH — A 37-year-old man who lives with his parents was arrested on a felony assault charge after he used a Christmas tree as a weapon in an attempted attack on his father, according to a sheriff’s report.

Manatee deputies arrested Thomas Edward Lackie of the 3300 block of 92nd Avenue East in Parrish last week after hearing a description of the altercation from his parents.

According to an arrest report, Lackie lost his temper around 9 p.m. Wednesday and threw a 3-foot-tall Christmas tree at his father. The tree missed, but Lackie then tried to use the steel base from the tree to strike his father.

His father and mother were able to grab Lackie’s arms to prevent the attack, which the report said could have caused serious injuries because the metal base weighs about five pounds.

Lackie denied trying to strike his father; no reason for the attack was given.
