A gardener had a lucky escape when he cut his grass – and mowed over a hand grenade.

Police said the 39 year old was saved from serious injury as the lawn mower, which was destroyed, took the full blast of the grenade when its rotor blades set off the device at his home in Zagreb yesterday (Thurs).

They said someone had thrown the grenade into his garden.
