Schuylkill Man Guilty of Groping Minnie Mouse

A bizarre and, dare we say, embarrassing conviction for a man from our area is making national news.
The man from Schuylkill County is guilty of groping Minnie Mouse.

John Moyer of Cressona was sentenced Tuesday in a Florida courtroom for inappropriately touching the Disney character while at the Magic Kingdom.

Andrea Long and Kathy Nabholz of Cressona said they still cannot believe their 60-year-old neighbor was found guilty of the charges against him. “I think they should relook at everything because there’s no way, no way. I think it’s horrible that he was found guilty of something like that,” said Long.

Moyer was found guilty of groping a woman playing Minnie Mouse while he was on vacation at Disney World in June.

The accusation came after a photo session when Disney employee Brittney McGoldrick claimed Moyer grabbed her breasts and rear end. She gave emotional testimony in court. “I was doing everything I could just to get his hands off my breast,” said McGoldrick.

After sentencing, Moyer defended his actions, maintaining they were innocent.

“We were having a fun time at Disney and she took it the wrong way,” said Moyer.

His neighbors in Cressona agree.

“Knowing John for the many years that I do, I really do think it was a really big misunderstanding,” said Nabholz. “It was just his personality as a funny guy and it was something that he would never intentionally do.”

Nabholz and Long said Moyer is a good man who believes in God and who recently lost his wife to multiple sclerosis. “I know the person he is and he knows the person he is so we’re hoping he can get over this and move on,” said Nabholz.

During sentencing, the judge said he didn’t see the incident as a sexual offense, but rather horsing around.

Moyer was sentenced to six months probation, community service and he must write a letter of apology to the Disney employee.
