THIS, this is the 1,000 blog post made to MissFidget.com.
While the domain www.missfidget.com has been under my control since the mid to early 90s it has only been a blog since May of 2007. There have been an average of .75 posts a day. There are hardly any comments at all.
The initial mission of this site, to function as a virtual and searchable newspaper clipping service remains intact. News stories on the internet bloom and vanish swiftly. The time an interesting story and it’s images remain on the web has shortened since 2007. The entire news industry continues to undergo an astonishing upheaval. Primary sources were initially small town papers and now they are becoming local tv stations. Whenever possible I try to use local sources for any article. I always try to credit my sources but I admit I should standardize the way I do so. I actively avoid referencing blogs or editorials and I try to limit my own editorializing to a pithy line or two. Some of my earlier images, which were links are gone, oh well, I’ll try to do better in the future.
A blog as a form of self expression has no appeal to me. I’d rather use a wig, my booming voice or paintbrush to express myself. Ideally in the future this site can be used as a tool to reveal trends about falls of items from the sky, chronicle incredible feats by children or chimps behaving badly. To paraphrase Dave Diller, If it happens once, it happens. If it happens a second time you notice. If it happens a third time you pay attention.
The main change to this site since 2007 has been an intentional and almost total abandonment of the category FASHION. The unbelievably tragic story of fashion industry maven Issie Blow enlightened me to the horrid, vapid, cruel world of fashion. When the working class boy who became an A list genius Alexander McQueen also took his own life it made me question why I would want to pay any attention at all to an industry that eats it’s own children and throws away it’s muses, mentors and mature.
