Superstitious home owners may balk at the idea of taking up residence at number 13, but an analysis of home insurance claimed someone living at number 243 would be more than twice as likely to make a claim.
Some 45 per cent of people living at number 243 have made a claim in the past four years, while ahead of number 201 with 36 per cent and number one with 34 per cent.
In comparison just 18 per cent of people living at number 13 claimed on their insurance during the same period.
Of the ten unluckiest addresses, seven were in the hundreds – numbers 190, 240, 241, 221, 217, 218 and 121.
However, break-ins and thefts accounted for a minority of the “bad luck” experienced by residents.
Three-quarters of all claims relating to loss or accidental damage, suggesting that the clumsiness of the residents themselves, and not the homes, could be to blame.
Gareth Kloet, head of home insurance at confused.com, which conducted the survey, said: “Some home insurance providers estimate entertaining at home left a whopping £820 million bill last year. Judging by our numbers it looks as if 243 is a popular place for a party.”
