Sweden Church Replaces Gospel With Techno to Lure Youth to Worship
By Matthew Cortina | Christian Post Contributor | global.christianpost.com

A church in Sweden is attempting to lure Christian youth to worship services by offering “techno mass”-a ceremony in which blaring techno music replaces traditional songs.

The Church of All Saints in Stockholm will illuminate this Sunday with strobe lights flashing and techno beats thumping. The Lutheran church says it is modifying worship in order to get more young people into the pews on Sunday morning.

27-year-old priest Olle Idestrom is organizing the event. “Techno mass” started last week and Idestrom said the feedback has been entirely positive.

Idestrom said he had to turn away people wishing to attend last Sunday’s techno mass.

Downs Designs-clothing made for people with Down syndrome

Posted by admin on Nov 1, 2011 in Fashion

Mass production has meant cheaper clothes for everybody at the sacrifice of clothing fitting anyone well. For some groups of people it is harder to find clothing that fits them well.

Down syndrome, or Down’s syndrome is a chromosomal condition caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome. Thus many people with it share some physical characteristics. These shared characteristics also mean those with Down syndrome often have trouble finding clothes that fit them well, especially long sleeve shirts and long pants.

A USA based company called Downs Design was created to make clothes especially for people with Down’s. Not only are complicated closures like button flies difficult for people with Down’s their unique body shapes can sometimes result in rolling up cuffs and hems, which can present a safety hazard as well as be pretty be tedious. Who wants to only wear long sleeve shirts with rolled up cuffs? The new company is rolling out a partial product line now with more products in the production pipeline.

From their site:

Our Inspiration
Creating a clothing line for people with Down syndrome has been an overwhelming task but a true labor of love. My inspiration has been granddaughter who was born with Down syndrome. As I watch her grow, I see the challenges her mother faces in finding clothes that fit her appropriately.

Our Goal
Our goal is for people with Down syndrome to have proper fitting clothes that fit their unique body shapes and have style as well. Our clothes are more than just shortening a sleeve or taking up a hem. They fit at the elbows and knees appropriately. Fasteners will be simple to open and close. These clothes are made to fit! We promise that rolling up sleeves and hems will no longer be a problem and settling for uncomfortable clothing because there are no other options will become a thing of the past.

Reebok to Refund Customers $25 Million Over Toning Shoes Complaint
By: Allison Berry | time.com | September 30, 2011

The only thing slimming down here is Reebok’s profit margins.

The athletic company agreed to pay up to $25 million this week in refunds to customers who bought their EasyTone brand sneakers. This settles a recent complaint filed by the FTC, which posited that Reebok’s claims about the health benefits of the shoes were false.

The EasyTone advertising campaign touted the shoes’ ability to strengthen legs and glutes, leading to a 28% improvement in buttock muscles, 11% improvement in hamstrings, and 11% improvement in calves as compared to regular walking shoes. But when the FTC investigated, they deemed the evidence to back these claims as insufficient.

The terms of the settlement prohibit Reebok from making any further claims about the sneakers’ exercise benefits unless backed by hard scientific facts. “The FTC wants national advertisers to understand that they must exercise some responsibility and ensure that their claims for fitness gear are supported by sound science,” David Vladeck, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in an FTC press release.

Posted by admin on Sep 12, 2011 in Fashion, fatu·ous·ness, Foolery

Japan is still recovering form the horrific tsunami. This is just one reminder of the sacrifices the entire nation is having to make, though one wonders how much of an impact it will have beyond Public Relations.

Japanese firm orders 2,700 staff to get the same ‘energy saving’ haircut… so they don’t have to spend as long blow-drying
Men to have short back-and-sides and women to wear a ‘cute’ bob
By Damien Gayle | www.dailymail.co.uk | 28th August 2011

A Japanese company has ordered all 2,700 of its employees to get identical hairstyles – to help save energy.

Tokyo-based Maeda Corporation announced the move as part of a national campaign to reduce energy consumption in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in March.

Men are expected to sport a short back-and-sides, slightly longer on the top, while women have been asked to wear a ‘cute’ bob with a fringe that can be swept to one side.

Chizuru Inoue, a spokesman for Maeda Corp, told the Daily Telegraph: ‘Our company is very keen on protecting the environment and we encourage our staff to adopt many environment-friendly actions,’We are not sure of the data yet, but we believe if people have short hair they do not need to use their hair driers for so long and they will use less water.

‘If all our staff do this, then it may save a lot of power.’

$40,000 is a nice chunk of change for charity. It is a smart and simple bag. I wonder if the new owner will actually use it?

Margaret Thatcher’s beloved black Asprey handbag raised £25,000 in a charity auction at Christie’s.
BY Belinda White | telegraph.co.uk | 28 June 2011

A handbag belonging to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher sold for £25,000 pounds at a charity auction at Christie’s late last night.

Best-selling author and former Conservative politician Jeffrey Archer was wielding the gavel at the auctioneer’s London showrooms at a sale where proceeds went to the charity chosen by each contributing sportsman, politician or musician.

Top price on the night was paid for the chief timekeeper’s stop watch that recorded Roger Bannister’s first four-minute mile in 1954. Donated by Archer himself, it fetched £97,250 and proceeds will go to the Oxford University Athletics Club.

Japanese unveil brain wave controlled cat ears

Posted by admin on Jul 5, 2011 in Fashion

Wow. I am not sure I am as enthusiastic about these as the article’s author but they do have WOW factor.

Neurowear unveils the “Necomimi”
Andrew DAISH | akihabaranews.com | May 7th,2011

Now I personally have always found Japanese fashion a little strange and not really to my taste but that is coming from someone who dislikes fashion anyway. But I can honestly say that I love these!

Neurowear has unveiled in the last few days a cat ear like hair band called the, “Necomimi”. This gadget/fashion device reads your brain waves and then sends them to the ears which move depending on how you feel – Straight up if you’re concentrating and they fall down if you are relaxed.

You really do have to see it to believe it.

So far Neurowear has not released a price or a date of release but the company has stated that this device will be the first in a new line of fashion/gadget products. I hope they become commercially available and affordable so I can get a pair!

I wonder what would happen if you played with a cat with the, “Necomimi” on your head?

Artistic dog grooming random photos

Posted by admin on Apr 9, 2011 in Fashion, Foolery

These photos clearly show the talent of photographer Mr. Netherland. Not only are his photos clearer and cleaner, they add dignity, credibility and  and  to their subjects. Some of the other candid shots seem silly while Mr Netherland’s work make them fantastic.

See my previous post on Mr Netherland dog grooming photography, photos taken by Mr Netherland that features the groomer/owners with their dogs and an old story I did a few years ago about extreme dog grooming.

How Banksy bailed out Russian graffiti artists Voina

British graffiti artist Banksy may never have been seen in public but his nearest Russian equivalents cannot seem to keep out of the news these days – thanks partly to the Russian police.

Leonid Nikolayev and Oleg Vorotnikov, members of the radical art collective Voina, were freed from custody last week after nearly four months awaiting trial for overturning police cars in St Petersburg.

They held a press conference on Thursday to talk about their ordeal. On their way home, accompanied by Oleg’s wife Natalia Sokol and his two-year-old son, Casper, they noticed they were being followed by seven men, who looked like “typical thugs”.

Indian government competition for better skin whiteners draws fire
Posted on behalf of Killugudi Jayaraman  |  nature.com  |  February 03, 2011

A scheme – perhaps the first of its kind in India – that sees the government’s science department team up with a US multinational to promote innovation has run into controversy.

In December 2010 the Department of Science and Technology (DST) launched a monthly competition in association with Cincinnati-based Proctor & Gamble (P&G) to solicit innovative ideas from Indian researchers. Winners were promised a cash award of $1000 and possible commercialization of their ideas by P&G, which has a beauty business worth over US$10 billion in global sales.

But the competition’s first call – for skin whitening alternatives to hydroquinone, which is not approved for use in many places including the European Union – has prompted criticism from researchers who argue that such products help to propagate racist attitudes in the country. Meanwhile, the department’s January challenge for cheaper alternatives to silicones in shampoos, lotions, fabric softeners, and other beauty products marketed by P&G has fared little better. The principal drawback of silicones is their expense and poor biodegradability but some researchers argue that India has more pressing issues for its scientists to address.
