Woman sees face of Jesus in sock
A woman claims she can see the face of Jesus in the creases of a drying sock.
www.telegraph.co.uk | 28 Dec 2011

Sarah Crane, 38, said she was stunned when she saw a bearded man staring back at her from the laundry line.

Her boyfriend agreed the crumpled grey “holy sock” bore an uncanny likeness to the traditional image of Christ, and the couple took photographs to show their friends.

They even talked about creating a shrine to the sock but then the face was lost when they moved it.

Miss Crane, from Orpington, Kent, said: “I’d left the washing out to dry overnight – and it had probably been sitting there a bit too long when I noticed the face in the sock.

“I called my boyfriend over straight away – we could both clearly see the face of Jesus in the sock.

“There is a straight-on face, and a side profile too – we couldn’t believe it.

“I immediately took some pictures to show our family and friends – they all thought it was hilarious.

“We think it’s a bit of a sign – but for what we don’t know.

“We thought it would be good to make a little shrine for it – but unfortunately, when we moved it, the creases fell out a bit and the face isn’t quite as clear now.

“But you can still just about make out his face. Unfortunately, it’s not quite good enough to donate to our local church, but our friends have all been round to see it.”

The sock is the latest in a series of everyday objects on which people have claimed to seen Jesus.

Last year an ivy-covered telegraph pole in Lousiana was said to have looked like the crucified Christ, while his face was seen in a Hungarian field spotted on Google Earth.

Jesus image appears on banana peel
By Lauren Dickson | From: The Daily Telegraph | www.dailytelegraph.com.au | December 22, 2009

SITTING down for an after lunch snack turned into a brush with all things holy when Lisa Swinton saw the face of Jesus on her banana peel.

‘‘I was like ‘Oh my God! It’s Jesus on a banana!’’

‘‘I got it out of the fruit bowl and was about to peel it and eat it when I saw his face,’’ she told The Daily Telegraph.

The impact of seeing Christ pressed into the banana did not stop the 39-year-old of Haberfield from still eating the fruit and depositing the holy peel.

‘‘I put some photos up on Facebook – one of my friends said it looked like a monkey.’’

Ms Swinton is not a stranger to holy visions appearing in day to day household objects.

‘‘One of my friends said they saw the Holy Mother on their bathroom door and another saw an apparition of Mary on the mould of their shower floor,’’ she said.

he fateful placing of her banana bunch underneath other fruit, Ms Swinton believes was the cause of the sacred imprint.

‘‘It definitely wasn’t that way when I bought it from Leichhardt Woollies,’’ she said.

Face of Jesus Christ appears in three-cheese pizza
By Cayla Dengate | March 30, 2011 | www.news.com.au

ALL hail Lord Cheesus – the holy apparition that appeared in a pizza.

In a purported “miracle”, the face of Jesus Christ has appeared on a three-cheese pizza made at Posh Pizza in New Farm, Brisbane.

And the image can be yours to enjoy.

The shop, in the city’s Fortitude Valley, has put the slice on eBay, and as of this morning bidding was up to $65.

All proceeds raised will go to a charity to be decided once the pizza is auctioned.

Posh Pizza’s Maree Phelan said her pizza oven was seemingly blessed with the presence of Jesus Christ, who chose a three cheese pizza as his medium.

Phelan isn’t convinced it’s the son of God, but she’s certain it got there on its own.

“I can definitely say this isn’t a fake,” she said.

“The three-cheese pizza always comes out with very different colours.”

It’s already proven a good luck charm.

“After discovering it, the owner of the store parked in a loading zone and didn’t get a parking ticket,” they wrote on eBay.

There is debate as to whether the face resembles Jesus Christ or other well-known bearded men, with Kings of Leon lead singer Caleb Followill a favoured candidate, with actor Viggo Mortensen and a long-haired Christian Bale popular choices.

”It’s open to interpretation as many of these crazy, out there things are,” Phelan said.

Australian Catholic University associate professor and director of the Institute for Catholic Identity and Mission, Patrick McArdle, said the pizza was “almost definitely not a miracle” and would be hard to prove.

”There are a lot of misunderstandings in the making of saints and miracles,” he said.

He said generally only “medical miracles”, such as healings, were accepted by the Catholic Church because those incidents could be tested using scientific means.

“We often rely on medical miracles because there is scientific proof it can’t be explained by conventional science, that’s where the validity comes from,” he said.

“You have to understand we can’t apply that kind of rigour to a piece of cheese,” he said.

McArdle said it was harmless fun.

“We Catholics can have a laugh at this, but if that image leads you to a deeper level of faith, or just a sense that Jesus is part of your life, then it can’t be a bad thing,” he said. “Faith is best shared around a meal at the dinner table.”

Australian Skeptics vice-president Richard Saunders put the apparition down to random chance.

”When you think about the hundreds of thousands of pizzas that are made every single day, statistically one of them is bound to vaguely resemble a face,” he said.

The vacuum-packed pizza is on sale at eBay until 5.40pm

Pizzeria worker sees Jesus in sauce bucket on first Friday of Lent

When Mary Louise Salerno saw Jesus Christ in a bucket of pizza sauce, her instinct was not to alert the media or even to tell many friends.

She did not want people descending on her family’s West Scranton pizzeria, and she did not want to invite critics or doubters of what she felt was a clear sign.

“To us, it was something special,” Ms. Salerno, 65, of Old Forge said. “God smiled on us that day.”

The image of Jesus has a history of unexpected appearances, from rocks and windows to medical X-rays and a tortilla. Add to that a sauce bucket at Brownie’s Famous Pizzeria, a long-standing eatery on Luzerne Street. It happened on the first Friday of Lent.

Ms. Salerno was at Brownie’s and talking with her granddaughter, 23-year-old Jackie Krouchick, while she made a pizza. Her granddaughter is a single mother who she said is struggling through tough times. Ms. Krouchick told her grandmother she worried she was losing her faith.

As Ms. Salerno poured tomato sauce from a white plastic bucket, she urged her granddaughter to keep believing. That is when she saw it, the image of a man with long hair and a beard in the leftover sauce.

Bill Salerno, the owner of Brownie’s and brother of Ms. Salerno, said he was skeptical until he saw it for himself. Maryann Marsico, who works at Brownie’s, said even an atheist would find it unmistakable.

“My 2-year-old grandson knows who it was. … He just looked at it and said, ‘That’s Papa Jesus,’ ” Ms. Marsico said.

It was not lost on Ms. Marsico that Jesus appeared at Brownie’s at the start of Lent, a holy Christian time that also happens to spur pizza sales because observers are not supposed to eat meat on Fridays.

“I will never cheat and eat meat again,” she said.

The bucket was placed in a cooler for a while, and a family friend insisted on taking a video of the image, which was posted on YouTube. On Wednesday, though, Brownie’s washed the bucket out with Ms. Salerno’s permission.

The message had been delivered, she said, and she did not want the image of her Lord “just sitting there in a pizza place.”

Mr. Salerno, 55 and also from Old Forge, said he is not a churchgoing man but he is religious, and seeing Jesus on that pizza sauce bucket was all the proof he needs.

“Jesus is everywhere, even in a little pizzeria in West Side,” he said.

Methuen woman sees likeness of Jesus on iron

METHUEN – Until this week, Mary Jo Coady had never given her iron a second thought. Then she saw a likeness of Jesus staring back from its not-quite stainless steel bottom.

Startled, Coady called in her daughters, both of them college students, and they saw what she saw. Then she took a picture and posted it on her private Facebook page, giving friends and relatives the same test. Everyone saw Jesus, she said.

“So I said, ‘OK, I’m not crazy,’ ’’ recalled Coady, a 44-year-old who works as a secretary in a medical office. After a challenging couple of years in which she let her Catholic faith wane, Coady found that the image had given her a spiritual boost. So she chose to share it with some others.

“This was just a good, uplifting thing for me, and it just made me reaffirm my faith and beliefs, and I’m not embarrassed to say that,’’ Coady said yesterday. “I believe in God, and I think that was a sign saying good things will come, and things will get better.’’

Coady first saw the image Nov. 22. She told The Eagle-Tribune of Lawrence about it and was featured in yesterday’s paper; the Associated Press picked up on it, and by that afternoon a picture of Coady’s iron had appeared on more than 200 news websites. It generated dozens of anonymous comments, and the jeering tone of many of them caught her by surprise.

Coady is not trying to persuade others to see Jesus where she does.

Five years ago this week, a grilled cheese sandwich that looked like a popular image of the Virgin Mary sold for $28,000 on eBay. Coady said she has no plans to market her iron similarly. She does not want pilgrims lining up at her door. She is not listed in the local phone book.

She simply thought others of faith might want to see an image that surprised her, cheered her, and made her want to return to St. Lucy, her Catholic parish, after a difficult two years. During that stretch, Coady separated from her husband; moved out of the home they owned and where they had raised their family; watched her hours get trimmed at work; and unpacked slowly in the rented two-family house where she now resides with her daughters, up against Route 110.

“I’m not telling anybody they’re going to be cured or anything if they look at my iron,’’ Coady said. “It’s just a nice story to share.’’

Coady’s pastor at St. Lucy, the Rev. Thomas E. Keyes, has not viewed the iron. He said he considers the power of such images to be personal, residing in individual inference and belief.

“I think it’s how we interpret things. It’s more of a personal thing. God works in his or her own way,’’ said Keyes, who believes that God or saints might choose to appear “in person, as opposed to on a toaster, or a cinnamon roll or a Frito, or whatever. But then, God does what it wants.’’ A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Boston did not comment yesterday.

Coady’s iron is otherwise unremarkable: manufactured for the Wal-Mart house brand, with a basic dial for fabric settings and a steam/dry switch.

She never used it much, but her 20-year-old daughter, Alison, regularly used it before going to work at a local Social Security office or class at Merrimack College.

Coady first spotted the image on the bottom when the iron was angled toward the door, near Alison’s bureau, when she entered her room that Sunday.

“That was my sign that things will be good,’’ said Coady, who moved the iron to the kitchen for safekeeping. Now that Thanksgiving is over, she plans to get a practical replacement.

“It’s Black Friday. Today’s a good day to run out and buy an iron.’’
